Dear residents,
Here is this week’s update on local consultations, roadworks, council services, development projects and activities across Waterloo and the South Bank.
Have your say
Lambeth Local Plan. The scoping consultation is open until Tuesday 13 October. The updated materials welcome residents’ views on safety. There will be an online community workshop on Thursday 8 October, 6.30–8.30pm. You can read the consultation, share your views, and register for the workshop.
Waterloo & South Bank Police Ward Panel. The next meeting is Wednesday 14 October at 10.30am at the Wellington Hotel, Waterloo Road, SE1. Residents, businesses and community organisations are welcome. Current priorities include robbery and theft, violence against women and girls, and antisocial behaviour involving bikes and e-scooters. To express an interest, email [email protected]. You can also join Met Engage for local alerts.
Roads, services and construction
Saturday 10 October march and travel notice. The South Bank BID has warned businesses about a planned march through Waterloo and the South Bank and possible road closures. The Met expects up to 10,000 people. Its current plan is to form up near Northumberland Avenue at noon, cross Westminster Bridge, continue along the South Bank towards Waterloo Bridge and the Strand, and finish with a rally in Whitehall at 5pm. The Met says it will publish any route and timing conditions in advance. Metropolitan Police statement.
Waterloo Road gas works. Emergency gas works and a road closure at 131 Waterloo Road are scheduled to continue until Friday 9 October. Please allow extra time for journeys and check Lambeth’s latest streetworks information before travelling. If you smell gas, call 0800 111 999.
Council service-charge statements. Lambeth has started issuing final day-to-day service-charge statements for April 2025 to March 2026. Council homeowners may receive an invoice or a credit. Statements are available through the Lambeth Homeowner Account. If you are concerned about paying an invoice, contact the council promptly to discuss available arrangements.
Project Vista weekend works. Multiplex has given advance notice of tower-crane installation work at the New Zealand House redevelopment, planned between 7.45am and 6pm on 18 October, 24–25 October and 31 October–1 November. The contractor says the work will remain within the site boundary, with safety and traffic-management arrangements in place. Questions can be sent to the Project Vista community manager.
Multiplex has also added power-exchange works for Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, 8am–6pm. It says the work will be within the site boundary and expects no significant noise beyond normal site-establishment activity. Following the September community meeting, the faulty hoarding lights have been repaired and Multiplex has committed to removing fly-tipping near the Iroko Building. The project team has also noted a concern about a skip lorry waiting near Gabriel’s Wharf at around 7.20am. The next community meeting is 24 November at 6pm at Redwood Co-op, Oxo Tower. The team has offered calls or individual meetings for residents who cannot attend.
Parks and development updates
Archbishop’s Park play equipment. Following my enquiries with the Parks and Sports Development team, £13,000 has been secured to bring the play equipment back into use. The funding is part of the approved 2026/27 parks capital allocation. Council officers are preparing the project initiation document; there is not yet a firm timetable, though officers hope the equipment will be back in use within a few months. I’ll continue to follow this up.
Royal Street development. Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation has confirmed a development partnership for the site. The residential part, Plot 1B, has been sold to London Square. It is planned to include 133 homes, with at least 50% affordable, alongside community and retail space. Construction is currently expected to start in spring 2027, subject to the necessary approvals.
PCUK March for Men. The event is planned for Saturday 10 July 2027 at Archbishop’s Park, where the park would be used as a stop for refreshments and medical support. Organisers have said there will be no amplified sound or loudhailers at this site. The application is still being considered through the usual process. Residents with questions or feedback can contact me.
Hercules Road tree. Lambeth’s arboricultural team says the mature cherry tree near Hercules Road and Sidford Place is due to be removed in the coming weeks. Officers report extensive stem decay caused by Ganoderma fungus and say the tree cannot safely be retained. A notice is to be placed on the tree. The update does not mention replacement planting.
Novotel London Waterloo proposals. The consultation team says it held two public exhibitions in September about proposed refurbishment and extension plans. It reports that feedback so far has been positive and says it will let residents know when it submits a planning application. The proposals are on the consultation website. I have offered to meet the team. A follow-up meeting has not yet been confirmed.

Businesses and green spaces
London in Bloom. WeAreWaterloo has won Silver Gilt at London in Bloom 2026, recognising its work on community gardening, green spaces and climate-resilient planting. The BID thanked local businesses, community groups and volunteers, including people involved in Rooted and Edible Marsh. We Are Waterloo.
Free electronic-waste collection. WeAreWaterloo is offering BID businesses a free electronic-waste collection on 4 November, 9am–5pm. The collection is limited to eligible items and businesses need to book. We Are Waterloo.
I’ll continue to follow these local issues and share further updates. If you have a question or would like to suggest a local service, event or volunteering opportunity for a future update, please email [email protected].
With best wishes,
Cllr Ibrahim Dogus
Labour Councillor for Waterloo & South Bank Ward
