Good news for everyone who lives, works and travels around Waterloo: Waterloo Road is set to reopen fully on the evening of Sunday 18 October.
SGN, the gas network company, confirmed on Friday 16 October that the road will be safe to reopen on Sunday evening once its resurfacing work is complete. The section between The Cut and Baylis Road to the north and Gray Street to the south has been closed for several weeks.
The closure began on 21 September, when a gas leak was reported outside The Old Vic. Engineers have since been repairing and replacing a section of the gas network in Waterloo Road to keep the supply safe and reliable for nearby homes and businesses.
The reopening should also bring relief for bus passengers. Routes including the 1, 68, 172, 176, 188, SL6, N1, N68, N171 and BL1 have been diverted, while the 59, 139 and C10 have been missing stops around Waterloo Station, The Old Vic and Lower Marsh.
Thank you to residents, businesses, theatregoers and commuters for their patience during these essential works. It will be good to see Waterloo Road open and moving again.
