Waterloo Road is closed for a time between Baylis Road and Pearman Street while SGN carries out emergency repairs to a gas leak outside The Old Vic. Some nearby commercial buildings have been evacuated.
A signed diversion is in place. SGN has not yet said how long the work will take. The closure is disruptive for residents, businesses, visitors and venues, and it is being done so the road is safe.
Anyone who smells gas should call the national gas emergency line on 0800 111 999. Allow extra time and follow the diversion.
