It was a pleasure to join more than 50 residents for the unveiling of “Best Friends”, a new sculpture by Tanya Russell in Archbishop’s Park.
Donated by Archbishop’s Park Community Trust to mark its 25th anniversary, the sculpture depicts a child looking up at his dog. It celebrates the special bond between people and their pets, reflecting the park’s role as a place to walk, play, relax and find companionship.
Lord David Blunkett, a regular user of Archbishop’s Park and a great supporter, spoke at the unveiling. We were also joined by the Mayor of Lambeth, Councillor Paul Valentine; Councillor Natalie Kane, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Inclusion, Democracy and Culture; fellow Waterloo and South Bank councillor Doug Buist; and many community leaders and representatives from local organisations.
It was a fantastic turnout and a lovely opportunity to celebrate together. I always love seeing people from across our communities coming together for the common good, supporting our shared spaces and recognising the people who care for them.
My thanks to Archbishop’s Park Community Trust, its trustees, staff and volunteers, and everyone who helped make this occasion possible. Their dedication to improving the park and supporting mental health and wellbeing through community gardening makes a valuable difference to local life.
Next time you visit Archbishop’s Park, look out for “Best Friends” just inside the Lambeth Road entrance.
