City AM: takeaway customers could pay £2bn more as hospitality VAT rises

City AM · 24 September 2021

City AM reported a British Takeaway Campaign warning that customers could pay around £2bn more for takeaways once the temporary VAT cut for hospitality came to an end.

Ibrahim, the campaign’s chair, called the rise a real kick in the teeth for operators already struggling with supply and staffing problems. He urged the government to use the Budget to protect restaurants, warning that otherwise costs would be passed on to families.

Earlier in 2021, Asian Voice reported that Ibrahim, as chair of the Kebab Alliance, was campaigning for the reduced 5% rate to be extended until March 2022.
