The 70th BFI London Film Festival came to a close on Sunday 18 October, after almost two weeks of premieres, talks and screenings right here on the South Bank.
The UK’s biggest film festival brought more than 250 films to audiences, with BFI Southbank at the heart of it all. Alongside the big premieres, the free LFF for Free programme of talks, discussions, short films and DJ nights gave everyone a chance to enjoy the festival without a ticket.
As the festival ended, the BFI announced this year’s award winners, chosen by four juries. Sergei Loznitsa’s Imperium won the Best Film Award in the Official Competition. The Sutherland Award for a first feature went to 9 Temples to Heaven by Sompot Chidgasornpongse, the Grierson Award for documentary went to Concrete Land by Asmahan Bkerat, and Rahul Roye’s Aman took the Short Film Award.
The juries also gave special mentions to Masc by Bertil Nilsson, Queer Edward II by Theo Rollason and Daughters of the Late Colonel by Elizabeth Hobbs.
There is still time to get involved. The winning short film, Aman, is free to watch on BFI Player until 25 October, and voting for the LFF Audience Awards stays open until Wednesday 21 October. Congratulations to all the winners, and to the BFI for a wonderful 70th festival on our doorstep.
